Courtyard vs Trove: Two $25 Graded Pack Sites, Different Clocks
Both start at $25 and vault graded cards. Courtyard gives you 7 days at about 90%. Trove gives you 2 minutes at 100%, then the rate falls.

Courtyard is the safer pick for most buyers, and Trove is the better pick only if you decide fast. Both charge $25 for an entry pack and both hand you one graded card from a vault, but Courtyard gives you a week to think about its buyback offer while Trove pays full value for exactly two minutes and then starts cutting the rate.
Short version:
- Entry price ties at $25 on both sites.
- Courtyard, run by Courtyard, Inc., keeps its buyback at about 90% with 7 days to accept.
- Trove, run by Trove Inc., pays 100% for 2 minutes, 90% for the next 24 hours, then 80%.
- Courtyard has an Android app and a wider catalog. Trove is web and iOS only, and every card is PSA-graded.
- On payouts, Courtyard has the cleaner record on paper. Trove has recent App Store reports of withdrawals not arriving.
Start with the cycle math
A pack site makes its money across a full cycle: what the average pull is worth, times what the buyback pays for it. One site publishes the first half clearly. The other makes you estimate it.
Courtyard shows an average item value of $24 on its $25 Pokemon Starter pack, which is 96% of the price. Take the buyback at about 90% and the math is 0.96 x 0.90 = 0.864. That is $21.60 back on a $25 pack if you sell the average pull straight back.
Trove does not publish an average like that. On its $25 Football Starter pack, the midpoints of its published value bands work out to about $23 of average value, roughly 93% of the price. That figure is our estimate from the bands in the Trove listing, not a Trove number. Run it through each buyback step:
| If you sell back | Rate | On a $23 average pull |
|---|---|---|
| Within 2 minutes | 100% | $23.00 |
| Within 24 hours | 90% | $20.70 |
| After 24 hours | 80% | $18.40 |
So Trove beats Courtyard for two minutes, matches the same 90% rate for a day, and falls behind after that. Courtyard’s $21.60 average also holds for a full week, because you get 7 days to accept its offer. If you like to sit with a pull, check recent sales, or ask around before selling, that slower clock is worth real money here.
Our guide to what a good buyback rate actually pays shows why the percentage alone never tells the whole story.
The vaults and the cards are not the same
Courtyard holds cards in its own insured vault in Delaware, with free storage, and its catalog runs wider: Pokemon, sports and One Piece, plus watches, sneakers and mixed packs. You can also list a card on its marketplace instead of taking the buyback.
Trove holds only PSA-graded cards, and they sit in the PSA Vault. Its games are sports, Pokemon and One Piece. That narrower setup has one clear upside: the grading company is PSA in every pack, and reviewers who like Trove often mention easy PSA Vault transfers. The downside shows up at shipping time. Our listing records 3 reviews describing a multi-step PSA Vault shipping process with extra fees and a request for a Social Security number.
Courtyard shipping is slower but plainer. It quotes up to 10 business days to process, then FedEx from Delaware, and 2 Trustpilot reports from August to September 2026 put the total at about 3 weeks.
Who sets the value matters on both
Neither site lets an outside market set the number your buyback is based on, and that is where most complaints start.
Courtyard uses its own pricing algorithm. Its help page on buyback offers, which we read again for this post, says the offer is based only on the card’s fair market value as Courtyard calculates it, not on what you paid for the pack. Low-star Trustpilot reviews cluster around disputed valuations, pulls worth less than the pack price, and ID checks that surprise people at their first withdrawal.
Trove works with Card Ladder to set and adjust its collectible prices, per GamesBeat reporting linked in its listing. That is a named outside pricing source, which Courtyard does not offer. It has not stopped the same basic complaint, though: pull value below the pack price is a recurring theme in Trove’s recent App Store reviews too.
On fairness checks, the split reverses. Courtyard offers no provably fair system at all, so you cannot verify a pull yourself. Trove says it offers provably fair services, a claim we confirmed on its homepage for this post, but it publishes no algorithm to check, so the claim earns only partial credit in our scoring. Our provably fair guide explains what a checkable system looks like.
Getting paid, and what users report
Courtyard pays buyback as withdrawable USDC, then offers debit card, PayPal, Venmo and bank transfer out. It advertises debit and Venmo withdrawals usually within minutes, and bank transfers the same day or within 2 to 3 business days. Several reports from August to September 2026 say a first withdrawal was held for ID verification, and 1 report cited a 15% withdrawal fee. There are no quantified payout times from users in our listing.
Trove pays buyback to a balance you can withdraw after ID verification, by debit, ACH, PayPal or Venmo, and its App Store listing says payouts are instant. The reports do not match that word. About 6 App Store reports from May to September 2026 describe withdrawals not received or blocked, and our listing records no completed payout times at all. That gap is why Trove scores 3.3 for payouts in our rubric against Courtyard’s 4.7, even though both promise speed. The full scoring breakdown is on our methodology page.
Reputation is also a story about how much evidence you can check. Courtyard can be checked in three places: Trustpilot at 3.7 from 897 reviews, the App Store at 4.6 from 8,314 ratings, and Google Play at 4.3 from 3,444 ratings, all checked October 12, 2026. It also holds a BBB grade of F, with 17 complaints closed over three years. Trove has no Trustpilot profile. Its App Store average is 4.7 from 1,132 ratings, checked October 17, 2026, but 24 of the 50 most recent written reviews there were 1-star, and that share has risen each month since May 2026.

Which one fits how you rip
Pick Trove if you know your exit before you open. If a pull is not a keeper, selling inside two minutes returns the full stated value, and no other timing window in this pairing pays 100%. That advantage is real, and it evaporates fast. A pull you sleep on is an 80% pull.
Pick Courtyard if you want time, options, or an Android app. You get a week at about 90%, a marketplace as an alternative to the buyback, more categories to rip, and fiat payout rails with published timing. You also get a longer public record to judge, including the parts that look bad, like that BBB grade. Our Courtyard alternatives page shows how it stacks up against the rest of the directory, and Trove’s alternatives are listed on the Trove listing.
